2011 Rugby Season

Please let me know if you are interested in coaching or managing a team in 2011.
Please send this e-mail to anyone you know who is interested in managing/coaching a team in 2011.
I have early indications from a few people that they are interested in specific teams so let me know your thoughts.
This is the first call for coaches and managers and the offer is open to any interested parties.
At this point I am planning to field teams in U7, U9, U10, U14, U15 and U17 competitions. There will not be an U18 competition in 2011.
Registration and training

Registration dates are Friday Feb 11th and Friday Feb 25th and then at training from Wed March 2nd.
First training date is Wednesday March 2nd and every Wednesday from then on at Vikings Oval.
Competition commences first week in April.
Junior Committee

There is no plan to have a Viking Junior Committee in 2011, there will be one Vikings Rugby Committee and I will attend those meetings and represent the junior club for 2011. The Vikings Rugby Committee is open to anyone who would like to attend and is currently on every second Wednesday at the Vikings Club.
At this point there appears to be no Junior Illawarra Rugby Committee either.

General Volunteering

Where we have people requesting to do specific tasks I will be happy to assist and where we have vacancy's I will ask each team to fill the duties so I can put out a roster.
In short we need a canteen co-ordinator to organise staff for the canteen on game days, a match day controller for game days, a raffle co-ordinator for game day and ideally a social co-ordinator for the season. All volunteers will need to work in with the Senior club as the Junior club no longer exists in its own right. This is working very well at present and I am happy to work with every one to make the year as smooth as possible.
I think that is all for now, this e-mail can be forwarded to your teams and please contact me if you require any further information.

Regards
James Caldwell

SEMI-FINALS AT VIKINGS

06/09/2010

Thanks to all of the players and supporters who contributed their time and efforts to enable Vikings to host two smoothly run semi-finals at the Club over the weekend. We received many compliments over the weekend, from IDRU officials, referees and other Clubs, and proves that the culture we have created brings success in many different forms. Thankyou to everyone.

3RDS ELIMINATED

06/08/2010

Unable to repeat their controlled performances of the past few weeks, our 3rds narrowly went down to Tech-Tahs in Sundays elimination semi-final at Vikings. The guys should be proud of their efforts this year, as we are of them, and for their contribution to what has been a remarkable turnaround for our Club. There are so many good young players who will progress through the grades over the coming years. Vikings 3rd Grade 2010 Semi-Finalists&..well done guys.

WOMENS WORLD CUP

06/09/2010

A dominant English pack provided a great platform for their sharp backline to steer the host nation to a clinical 15-0 win over the Wallaroos in the Womens World Cup semi-final. Honorary Viking Nicole Beck provided the Wallaroos highlight with THAT desperate crunching cover tackle on flying England fullback Danielle Waterman to save a certain try. Do yourself a favour, go to www.wrcwomens.com to watch it again, and again, and again. The Black Ferns were superb in demolishing France 45-7 in the other semi.

The Wallaroos re-grouped with a 4-try first half to down France 22-8 in the plate final, and finish the tournament in 3rd place. Well done to the girls for achieving Australias best ever finish at a World Cup, and for the attacking way they play the game. Nicole finished as the Wallaroos leading point scorer, and was also named as one of four nominees for the IRB Womens Personality of the Year Award, which was deservedly won by brilliant New Zealand winger Carla Hohepa. Congratulations Nic, we are very proud of you.

In a great game of rugby, New Zealand rallied from 3 yellow cards to clinch their 4th World Cup with a gutsy 13-10 victory over England in the Final.

CLUB CHAMPIONS 2010

30/08/2010

Vikings Rugby Club are the IDRU Club Champions for 2010, capturing this prestigious title for the first time since 1992. After being unable to field a 3rd grade team and finishing with the wooden spoon in both 1st and 2nd grades last season, this is a massive turnaround and a fantastic achievement. The focus for the year has been on rebuilding the culture at the Club, and the consistent hard work and positive attitude of the players throughout the season has been reflected in our weekly performances and results. Everyone has contributed to this win, and the entire playing group should be justifiably proud of this accomplishment.

WALLAROOS UPDATE

30/08/2010

The Wallaroos have completed their pool matches at the IRB Womens Rugby World Cup in London. The Aussie girls played a fast and open game to down Wales 26-12 in their opening game, with Vikings Nicole Beck scoring Australias first try of the tournament, and kicking 3 conversions. The Wallaroos were outclassed by World Champions New Zealand 32-5 in the 2nd round, but responded well to defeat South Africa 62-0 in their 3rd round clash. Nicole kicked 8 from 10 for a personal tally of 17 points, but it was centre Sharni Williams crossing deep into injury time for the Wallaroos 8th try that edged our girls ahead of Canada and Ireland on points differential to qualify for the Semi Finals for the first time.

The Wallaroos play England in the semi final this Wednesday, while the Black Ferns will meet France. The Final will be played this Saturday. For live coverage of the games and for more updates, go to www.rwcwomens.com . Everyone at Vikings wishes Nicole and the Wallaroos all the best in their Semi Final.
